Merak is also the traditional name for the star Beta Ursae Majoris.

Merak is an area in Cilegon, Banten, Indonesia. Located on the northwest tip of Java, it is a seaport and the site of a major petrochemical manufacturing plant. A busy ferry route runs from Merak to Bakauheuni, across the Sunda Strait on the southern tip of Sumatra.
