Meols Cop railway station serves the eastern outer suburbs of the coastal town of Southport, England, including the area of Meols Cop itself. The station has an island platform and is served by Northern Rail's Manchester Victoria - Wigan Wallgate branch services, on which it is the penultimate stop before the terminus at Southport.
[edit] History
The station was originally built by the Liverpool, Southport and Preston Junction Railway and is the only part of that line still in use (it replaced a section of the Manchester and Southport Railway). Meols Cop was the terminal stop for electric locomotives coming from Liverpool.
The line around Meols Cop was originally electrified in 1909 by the owners of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. Electrification now ends at Southport.
