[edit] Asalah Nasri

Hi, few weeks ago I added external links to Asalah's page..I also added some to Latifa's page. They were links to blogs which contains English translations of their songs, the ones in Latifa's page was removed by admins but the ones by Asalah were not. I am not really sure if it's ok to add them or not. Can you find out?

--Radiant 07:43, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

The external links in Asalah Nasri should be deleted. Since you seem to be an inexperienced user (you have made less than 300 edits), I will try to use simple language in explaining why. Linking to sites such as: Flickr and Blogger should be avoided. The reason for this is that anyone can write anything in these sites and then use it as a link on an article in Wikipedia. However, note that Wikipedia does not have a consistent policy. If you want more information, please read Wikipedia:External links.
  • I, also, noticed your contributions related to the articles: Latifa and Thekra. Good work.

[edit] Faten Hamama

Hi Mohammed. I noticed you are quite active in contributing to Arabic articles, especially those of artists and celebrities. I am considering nominating Hamama's article for FA status. I've spent a great deal of effort and have completely rewritten this article, as it was a stub before. If you would review this article and give me some feedback on what can be done to further improve the article, I would be grateful. I think this article, if it succeeds as a FAC, would be the first of its kind (an Arabic celebrity, if we, of course, forget Abu Musab al-Zarqawi :D ).

--ANAS Talk? 17:22, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

I have made some minor edits to the article and nominated it as a featured article. I think it has a chance of 70-80% of success. However, even if it was not promoted, there will be some very useful feedback from other users. By the way, you have made excellent contributions on the article. Good work.

--Meno25 04:06, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Mohammed, good morning. I was slightly ticked by your nomination of the article. I have not finished work on the article and I whenever I do, I would like to nominate it myself. Now, I also appreciate your edits to the talk page, but please do not make such edits. Rating articles that are A-class needs a review, or placing a request for assessment. I'm sure many users will not be happy with such edits. I ask you to withdraw the nomination quickly. Thank you for your edits.

--ANAS Talk? 07:52, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I withdrew the nom. Just a tip, when you usually want to do something as this, you must consult with the user. For example, you cannot just nominate a user in RfA without even telling him, let alone asking for his permission. In wikipedia, we tell you to be bold, but not that bold. ;) Anyways, حصل خير.

--ANAS Talk? 08:01, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

  • I am really sorry for the fact that I nominated this article as featured. This is your article or more accurately you made the most important edits in the article not me. I totally forgot that you must nominate it. I was just enthusiastic and forgot that other users love to nominate the articles they contributed heavily in by themselves. I put a speedy deletion tag on this page.
  • I want you to know that I consider Syria as the closest country ever to my country Egypt. Syria fought with us the 1973 war and the two countries were once unified.
  • About the rating of the article. I didn't know that A rating needs a review. However, why didn't you rerate the article as GA? In my opinion it deserves A rating. Don't be afraid to nominate an article as featured. The article is very good indeed and remember that perfection is impossible.
  • About the talk page of the article. I restored the text written by you because I thought that the page was vandalized. However, it is your right to delete it according to Wikipedia policy. What I did to the templates was merely a rearrangement. I didn't delete anything.
  • Concerning the Al-al. We in Egypt never write al. We always write Al. Since the article is about an Egyptian actress then it should be written by using Al. A quick search in Answers.com shows Al and al. I think that al is used only in Gulf countries. Example: please see this comment in the article about President Anwar Al Sadat. Note that I didn't write this comment but another user did. Another example, I created the article about Zekra then another user moved it Thekra but since Zekra was Tunisian I thought that maybe in Tunisia they spell it differently. So, I am asking you to rewrite it using Al or to revert it to my version. Thank you.

--Meno25 10:15, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Dude, it's cool, I understand. Don't even think or worry about it.
  • Concerning the rating, well even if the article is as A-class as it gets, veteran users might not be happy with you rating a what might be A-class article. You can, however, rate articles below this level. That's not really important, you don't have to involve yourself with such trivial processes. :)
  • I left the review template because I might request another review.
  • OK, about the Al-'s. According to the Al- article, we are actually sharing the same opinion, though there seems to be a slight misunderstanding, and it's OK. The search will definitely lean towards Al; a similar case if you search in here, thats why they named it the Al- article, not the al- article, so when you search for Al-, your results will explain the Al you were looking for. If the "Al-" comes in the beginning of the name, it should be capitalized; however if it comes in the middle of the name, it shouldn't. You see "Al-" is Arabic for "The", and in English, you might see, "The Name", but in the case "Name the Great", the "the" is not capitalized. The case is similar in Arabic, that's why when "Al-" is in the middle of a name, I write it as "al-". Similarly, we don't write Al-walad (common noun), we write al-walad. Of course a lot of Anglicized Arabic names don't follow this rule. People's names are sometimes written differently, even in books and newspapers. So usually, when I write an article about an Arab, I search google for the most name with hits, or the most suitable. But since these movies aren't really well-featured on the internet (from more than one or two reliable sources), I write according to the Al- rules. It's not really a big deal. If you have a different opinion, please present to me.

[edit] Re:My editor review

Don't mention it. Looks like your computer has some sharp mood swings. :-D

Participating in the AfDs and MfDs will boost your chance greatly. You have to participate in them for quite some time to get attention from the locals over there. Do a little countervandalism too, that'll help. You can use tools like popups and VandalProof to help you. Also visit this for more useful tips. Good luck.

[edit] Rating

Hi again Mohammed (please tell me if you mind me calling you by your name). I noticed you were doing some rating edits in article talk pages. There are a few issues. First of all, good articles undergo a nomination process, like FAs. You can't just rate them GA, they have to be nominated here. I also think this article deserves no more than a start-class rating; it needs cleanup and references. Happy editing.

--ANAS Talk? 14:26, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't of course mind you calling me with my name but I am rather curious about how did you know it. The article you mentioned is now rated as B. I will be more careful concerning rating articles in the future. I plan to rate all 2200 unrated articles of WP Physics. Also about VandalProof, I was grated the permission to use it on November 27 2006. However, I didn't revert any vandalism with it until now because the vandalism I found was quickly reverted by other users before I can revert them. But I reverted vandalism manually about 7 times as this and this. Thank you for your advice concerning the WP:GAC.

--Meno25 02:46, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

..Was browsing through your edits for your edit review. ;) Concerning VandalProof, weird.. I can do about a 100 without the tool. I don't know if you know this; customize your recent changes options to show you only anon edits, and chance is that almost a half are vandals (you should check out the diff). Good luck.

--ANAS Talk? 09:31, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

I followed your advice and made my first vandalism revert using VP which was this. Thank you very much for your help.

[edit] misdirected vandlism warning

I removed a warning you made to User_talk:24.229.135.128 ( diff ), which I believe was in error. The user was actually removing vandalism(!). I'm sure it was an accident, just thought it worth a note. All the best ;)..

-- here 00:13, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes it was a mistake. Actually, VandalProof froze and stopped responding. I think this might be a bug in the software. Thank you for correcting this error and for spending your time making Wikipedia a better place.
Cheers!

[edit] Reordering at Grazon

I truly appreciate your attempt to keept things honest, but if you'll double-check that reorderign at Grazon, then you'll see that it was just getting the IP numbers in numeric order. :-)

--12.72.72.157 19:11, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

BTW, I see how Wikipedia can obscure the nature of the change. Compare the three yellow lines on the left to the three green lines on the right, though, and you'll see that no line has been removed or added, nor chnaged except for position.

--12.72.71.71 19:21, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Dear sir or madam
According to Wikipedia policies using of a sock puppets is discouraged. (See Wikipedia:Sock puppetry.) Also, any user should modify only his user page (except when blocking a user indefinitely.) I recommend that you stop contributing through IPs and choose one account and report the others to be blocked. (See:Wikipedia:User page.). Thank you.

--Meno25 04:57, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

The user in question is blocked across at least three accounts for sockpuppetry. The reason for posting the info box on his user pages instead of to his user_talk page is that he has a history of removing info posted to his talk page. (He is not blocked on his talk pages.) The IP numbers in question are not going to be given indefinite blocks, because they are almost certainly not going to be indefinitely assigned to one subscriber by their respective ISPs. But a history of the editor's abuse of sockpuppets and anonymous edits needs to be readily available to facilitate identification if-and-when he returns to Wikipedia, should he continue to edit malevolently.

[edit] Nabih Youssef

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Nabih Youssef, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Nabih Youssef. You may remove the deletion notice, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria.

--Argyriou (talk) 23:45, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

I think that this article should be deleted. You are right that it is not notable. Thank you for your message.

--Meno25 03:47, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Foreign-language redirects

I've closed your AfD nomination on a foreign-language redirect and moved it to redirects for discussion, since that's where it should be.

--BigHaz - Schreit mich an 11:00, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your effort.

[edit] Ayman Al Zahabi

I've restored the talk page. Whoever tagged it for deletion forgot to remove the talk page redirect, so when I deleted the article and clicked on talk to delete the talk page, it redirected to Talk:Asalah Nasri without me noticing. Sorry about that. Cheers.

Thank you for your quick response.
