Menteşe

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Anatolian Turkish Beylik of Menteshe with its capital in Milas was one of the frontier principalities established by Oghuz Turkish clans after the decline of Anatolian Seljuk Sultanate.

The actual Turkish province of Muğla was named sub-province (sanjak) of Menteshe until the early years of the Republic of Turkey, but its seat had been moved from Milas to Muğla with the establishment of the Ottoman rule in the 15th century.

The Menteşe Dynasty was the ruling Turkmen dynasty in the Mugla-Milas area (today, the Muğla Province) of southwestern Anatolia, (today, southwestern Turkey). Holding power along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, it lasted from circa 1290 to 1425. It was founded by Mentese Bey. [1] [2]
