Men on a Mission
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Men on a Mission was a professional wrestling tag team pairing of Mabel, Mo and their rapping manager Oscar debuting in the WWF in late 1993.
Originally a face team, they were given an image of three people who could be loved by the crowd but who were also attempting to make positive changes in their neighborhood. This was accomplished through use of several (usual for the time for the WWF) vignettes showing them walking down streets in the ghetto but saying positive things and talking about how things could be made better.
The group met with moderate success to begin with; while never quite winning the tag titles as a face, they did seem to get over. In one memorable appearance, the duo appeared painted as a pair of Doinks in a Survivor Series match.
Men On A Mission finally won the Tag-Team Title, besting the The Quebecers when Mabel accidentally fell on Pierre and somehow got the pin. Two nights later, the Quebecers came out on top in a rematch for the belts. Men On A Mission never saw a championship again.
Eventually, the fans tired of the wrestlers (and their manager) who would rap their way down the entrance aisle (usually Oscar, but sometimes Mabel & Mo also) while clad in shiny purple suits and tights. The group was turned heel when they, after a multiple team tag match, attacked their partners and even their manager when he tried to step in and stop the beating.
Not long after dropping the titles, Mabel started to compete in more and more singles matches with Mo acting as, more or less, his manager.
[edit] Pro Wrestling Federation
Before Men on a Mission debuted in the WWF, they competed in Pro Wrestling Federation as the Harlem Knights. At that time, Mabel was known as Nelson Knight, while Mo was called Bobby Knight; the team was managed by George South.
[edit] Accomplishments
While still a member of Men On A Mission, Mabel won the 1995 King Of The Ring tournament.
