Melgar, Colombia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Melgar is a Colombian town located southwest of Bogotá. It was founded with the name of Candelaria on the site of an ancient Amerindian village that belonged to the Panches. It is known in Colombia as the "City of the Swimming Pools" or the "Sea of Swimming Pools" because of its more than 5000 swimming pools. It is a major inland resort, which the people of Bogotá visit on weekends to flee the capital's cold weather for the warm climate of the valley.

The drive to Melgar can be a little crazy as drivers will pile onto the opposite side of the road. The drive will also take you under the "Nariz De Diablo" which means "nose of the devil". http://www.colarte.arts.co/graficas/colecciones/Tolima/Thumb/thTolip4p1.jpg
