Mel Weitsman

Sojun Mel Weitsman (1929 - present) was born in Los Angeles, CA and is a Soto Zen priest who received Dharma transmission from the son of Shunryu Suzuki, Hoitsu Suzuki. Mel began Zen practice under the guidance of Shunryu Suzuki at the San Francisco Zen Center and in 1969 was ordained as a priest by him at Berkley Zen Center. Mel also continues to give occasional talks at City Center (Beginner's Mind Temple) and Tassajara (these along with Green Gulch Farm make up the entirety of SFZC).
