The Sudarium of Saint Veronica (1649), engraving and etching by Claude Mellan. Size of the plate: 42.8 x 32 cm.

The engraving consists of a single spiralling line of varying thickness, starting at the nose. The wavy pattern above and below the head does not exist in the original and is an artifact of the pixelated reproduction. See [1] for a zoomable version.
