Mehmet Aydın

Mehmet Aydın is one of Turkey's Ministers of State. As Turkey's religious affairs minister, he is responsible for overseeing the Directorate of Religious Affairs.

Mehmet Aydın was born in 1943 in Elazığ. He graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Ankara University in 1966 and received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh in 1971. He taught at Atatürk University from 1971-1973; at Ankara University and Middle East Technical University from 1976-1984; and has since been teaching at Dokuz Eylül University, where he is Dean of the Faculty of Divinity.

Mehmet Aydın is also a member of the Turkish Philosophical Association and author of several books such as:

  • Author of God and Moral Value in Kant and in Modern British Philosophy (1992);
  • Turkish Contribution to Philosophy (1985);
  • Philosophy of Religion (1992);
  • Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge (1982);
  • Islam en Dialoog, Amsterdam (1996).
