He is a rare species whose reason for existing is unknown, but have something to do with the Digital Hazard, a power that is sealed away by some other "force". However, when that power is awakened, he creates a system meltdown which could destroy the Digital World. It is theoried that he can Slide evolve to ChaosGallantmon.
His name may come from Megiddo, the place where, in Christian tradition, the final battle between good and evil, Armageddon, will take place. It may also come from the Latin word 'Megid' which means 'to destroy'.

Angered by Leomon's death at the hands of Beelzemon, Takato wanted WarGrowlmon to digivolve so that he could defeat Beelzemon. However Takato's anger caused WarGrowlmon to Dark Digivolve to Megidramon. At first, Takato was filled with as much bloodlust as Megidramon. Jeri finally snapped him back to his senses and he became horrified by this transformation (which also caused the destruction of his D-Ark), Takato could only watch as Megidramon and Beelzemon went head to head. Although Megidramon at first had the upper hand with Beelzemon wrapped in his coils and pressing forward with his fangs in an attempt to devour him, Beelzemon was finally able to defeat Megidramon by kicking at the Hazard symbol on his chest after absorbing Makuramon's data and beat the serpentine dragon unconcious. Takato cried, knelt down by the unconscious Megidramon and wished that they could fight Beelzemon together as it should be, which resulted in him Biomerging with Guilmon to become Gallantmon. Takato then received an Ultimate (Golden) D-Ark.
