[edit] History

Megaputer grew out of a research and development group in Artificial Intelligence at Moscow State University established in 1989. A group of researchers from various fields came together to develop software packages for performing advanced modeling experiements. These software programs were small, separate algorithms designed for specific analytical tasks such as modeling equity price changes, classifying heart diseases, and identifying products typically purchased in groups.

A commercial company, Megaputer Intelligence Ltd. was founded in 1993 in Moscow, Russia and shipped its first data mining system, PolyAnalyst 1.0, in 1994. Business interest grew in the United States to employ these various analytical programs to help with a range of tasks like targeted marketing, campaign management, biogenetic research, and cockpit usability modeling for aircraft design. The group of researchers formally created Megaputer in 1996 with the intent of designing and selling a data analysis software suite as a package called PolyAnalyst.
