Mega Man Star Force (流星のロックマン Ryūsei no Rokkuman?, lit. "Rockman of the Shooting Star") is an upcoming Mega Man action RPG video game published and developed by Capcom for the Nintendo DS handheld video game console.

Mega Man Star Force has some similarities to the Mega Man Battle Network series, but is considered a separate entity. Both an anime and manga were produced several months prior to the game's Japanese release date and are currently running in Japan.

[edit] Plot

Mega Man Star Force features the adventures of a fifth grade student named Subaru Hoshikawa (星河スバル Hoshikawa Subaru), and his FM, Warlock (War-Rock; ウオーロック Wōrokku) in the year 220X, two-hundred years after the EXE series. Warlock is an extraterrestrial who can merge with Hoshikawa to become this series' Mega Man through "Radio Wave Conversion," which transforms an ordinary human into a "radio wave human," allowing him or her to freely operate in the Radio Wave World.

In the two-hundred years since EXE, technology has advanced rapidly, leading to the creation of new and more efficient modes of transportation, as well as the construction of futuristic cities.

[edit] Gameplay

Like the Battle Network games, Mega Man Star Force is rendered in an identical isometric 3-D style to its predecessor (sprites, views, etc.), but unlike them, its battle system is three-dimensional, and the battles are viewed from behind Mega Man instead of from the side, with movement now restricted to only left and right. Other new gameplay elements include an "Access Gauge" and "Brother Band" (which allows access to another feature called "Brother Force"). The environment of Mega Man Star Force is also comparable to that of Mega Man Battle Network, however, instead of exploring the internet, Mega Man traverses paths of radio waves directly above the human world (known as the "Wave Road"). The Radio Wave World is maintained by three satellites orbiting the Earth: Pegasus, Leo, and Dragon.

In addition, viruses have been replaced by "Radio Wave Viruses," and BattleChips by "Battle Cards." Instead of a P.E.T., Subaru uses a portable computer called a "Transer." Mega Man Star Force consists of three versions sharing the names of the satellites: Leo, Dragon and Pegasus, references to the constellations Leo, Draco, and Pegasus, respectively.

Mega Man Star Force is compatible with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. According to the official press release, it will incorporate the "Brother Band" concept where another person playing the game can lend his or her power, though this will likely be incorporated into the main game and story as well.
