[edit] Request Information

Request made by: TheRingess 07:11, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Where is the issue taking place?
...A disagreement over what constitutes a source for a given statement on David Quinn (actor), particulars are on discussion page. It appears now that the editor (or a friend) has modified the imdb entry for Mr. Quinn in order to use that as a source.

That last sentence was made in haste and so I struck it.TheRingess 15:07, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Who's involved?
...71.231.150.79 and TheRingess
What's going on?
...Mostly a discussion about what constitutes a source for a line of material in the article. Lot of reverting going on. The discussion seems stalled.
What would you like to change about that?
...I would simply like several editors to express their opinion on the discussion page.
Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?
...I would simply prefer that a few fellow editors read the discussion on Talk:David Quinn (actor)#New references and supply their opinions at Talk:David Quinn (actor)#Requests for comment. I am willing to hear all opinions and am sure the other party would be willing also. Comments on my talk page are also more than welcome.

[edit] Discussion

While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.

Thanks for taking this on, but I think it has pretty much resolved itself.

This article is a short bio about a man who once acted in television and is now a teacher.

Periodically some of his students like to add material to the article. Often this material comes from personal interviews with the subject; rather than reputable sources.

I have this article on my watchlist because about 6 months ago a group of his students got into an argument over material in the article and started reverting any and all changes.

Over the last couple of weeks I've had an ongoing discussion with a young editor over what constitutes a source for a particular sentence that the young editor wished to add.

I felt that the discussion was stalled, so I opened the case. I archived the discussion in one of the article's archived pages.

The sentence is now supported by a new addition to the IMDB. The IMDB did not support the sentence several weeks ago and I'm not that familiar with how the IMDB works, but now there seems to be some new material added to the IMDB entry for the subject.

That's a brief synopsis from my point of view.

I agree with Ringess. We were originally disputing whether or not a DVD and a picture in a book could be sources, but IMDB added Quinn's credit to his official profile, so there was no reason to continue or seek mediation.
