[edit] Mediation Case: 2006-05-22 Extremely uncooperative user, reoccuring edit wars

Please observe Wikipedia:Etiquette and Talk Page Etiquette in disputes. If you submit complaints or insults your edits are likely to be removed by the mediator and refactoring of the mediation case by anybody but the mediator is likely to be reverted. If you are not satisfied with the mediation procedure please submit your complaints to Mediation Cabal: Coordination Desk.

[edit] Request Information

Request made by:  freshgavinΓΛĿЌ  11:59, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Where is the issue taking place?
A load of pages, most related with Wikipedia:WikiProject Owarai of which I am the original creator. Masashi Tashiro, Koriki Choshu, Bobby Ologun, and recently Bakusho Mondai are frequented by User:Hatto, and other users performing the same edits (though usually not logged in).
Who's involved?
User:Hatto, me, other members of Project Owarai, and whoever else has tried to contend his edits.
What's going on?
He's generally not an abusive user, so I invited him to the project in the hopes that he would cause less damage that way. He generally tries to toss out references to Masashi Tashiro into every popular page that he can possibly think of an explanation, I guess because he's a fan of his. It's usually very inappropriate, in the way it would be inappropriate to quote George Clinton's views on Michael Jackson (assuming they weren't controvercial and nobody really cared). This is made much worse by the fact that most of the articles he edits are extremely small, so adding the trivial information really degrades from the core facts.
Besides that he has a tendancy to enlarge pictures for no apparent reason, makes faulty edits due to his weak grasp of the English language, and refuses to discuss his edits in talk pages. I have repeatedly reminded him to leave comment summaries, defend his edits, not double revert, pay attention to the MoS and common sense, and I've done so in Japanese and English, but he rarely responds and never changes. This has been carrying on now for over 6 months and I'm finding it hard to keep my patience, especially since I've been trying to give him as much room as possible this whole time just to avoid any conflicts.
What would you like to change about that?
I believe he would stop if he was reminded by someone other than me about Wikipedian conduct. If a simple warning/reminder doesn't help then I think he might start to understand if he's blocked for a day or so. He's broken the revert rules enough times to deserve that.
If you'd prefer we work discreetly, how can we reach you?
I've warned him repeatedly that if he doesn't cooperate I'd ask someone else to help.
Would you be willing to be a mediator yourself, and accept a mediation assignment in a different case?
I'm not really free enough to "accept assignments". I handle all mediations as they come to me.
This is, following the Categorical Imperative, the idea that you might want to do
what you expect others to do. You don't have to, of course, that's why it's a question.

[edit] Mediator response

I'll take this Geo.plrd 22:35, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

My name is Geo.plrd. Try having an administrator speak to Hatto. If Hatto still does not listen, you may need to recommend the article for protection. Also I would like to hear Hatto's side of the dispute. Feel free to contact me at user_talk:Geo.plrd

Update

If I dont hear from either party in the next two days I will close the case. Geo.plrd 22:28, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Refusal to cooperate with users

Misconduct by User:Hatto

evidence

Hatto repeatedly removes comments from his talk page that accuse him of misconduct (multiple users)

[edit] bad conduct across mediawiki

Misconduct by User:Hatto

evidence

(link provided below) This is the history of the Masashi Tashiro article on Japanese wiki. Mostly because of Hatto's constant reverts (along the lines of "I think it's important, so you can't delete it... revert") it has been permanently protected. The last user (at the top) quotes "blocked because of edit wars". Other users battling with Hatto quote "please discuss your edits on the talk page", "removing spam", "reverting nonsense", "removing unrelated information", etc. Administration is much looser on Japanese wiki but his conduct seems to be the same no matter where he goes.

Please report evidence in this section with {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence}} for misconduct and {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence3RR}} for 3RR violations. If you need help ask a mediator or an advocate. Evidence is of limited use in mediation as the mediator has no authority. Providing some evidence may, however, be useful in making both sides act more civil.
Wikipedia:Etiquette: Although it's understandably difficult in a heated argument, if the other party is not as civil as you'd like them to be, make sure to be more civil than him or her, not less.

[edit] Compromise offers

This section is for listing and discussing compromise offers.

[edit] Comments by others

While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.

[edit] Preliminary Assessment

After reviewing the statements made by Freshgavin, I posted a message on Hatto's talk page informing him of this dispute and requesting his side of the dispute. From what I have reviewed , Hatto may need to be warned by an administrator but I can proceed no farther without hatto's response Geo.plrd 18:40, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Hatto is clearly active and shows no intention of responding.  freshofftheufoΓΛĿЌ  06:11, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
