[edit] Request Information

Request made by: Jamoche 17:54, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Where is the issue taking place?
Talk:Blue_Panther, Blue_Panther, Blue_panther, Suzie Kassem, Suzy Kassem, Blupantha, The Blue Panther
Who's involved?
Far2steep, User:Darren_Jowalsen
What's going on?

Far2steep had created several new articles with identical content. I spotted them on the new article page and was cleaning them up by making redirect links when I found Talk:Blue_Panther; apparently there's a edit war between supporters of a wrestler and an artist who have the same name. There was a suggestion for redirect pages back in March but nothing came of it.

Today Far2steep created multiple pages for the artist and changed the wrestler's page (Blue_Panther and Blue_panther) to have that same content - including a top line with "For the Mexican wrestler, see Blue Panther" (not wikilinked). In the new pages such as Suzie Kassem the top line has a wikilink, but as the article has been changed to no longer refer to the wrestler that's rather pointless.

At that point I realised it was too big a mess for me to clean up. This seemed like the best place to report it.

What would you like to change about that?
If you'd prefer we work discreetly, how can we reach you?
...
Would you be willing to be a mediator yourself, and accept a mediation assignment in a different case?

No, thanks. Still new here.

This is, following the Categorical Imperative, the idea that you might want to do
what you expect others to do. You don't have to, of course, that's why it's a question.

[edit] Mediator response

Hi there, I am Cowman109Talk and I have volunteered to take this mediation case. From what I see this is a conflict concerning who should be in the page Blue Panther. I am going to jump right into this and go into a compromise offer:

Would you be fine if Blue Panther and all of its duplicates were turned into redirects to Suzie Kassem (real names should be used per Wikipedia:Naming conventions) with a notice at the top redirecting to Blue Panther (wrestler). whose contents can be copied from this link?Cowman109Talk 18:23, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Update 18:30, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

It appears Blue Panther has been turned into a disambiguation page as of 3 minutes ago. Cowman109Talk 18:30, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Update 18:33, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Well... that was bafflingly fast. Is there still a need for mediation, then? Cowman109Talk 18:33, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion

Guess not, then. It looked like a big ugly mess when I found it. Thanks! --Jamoche 18:39, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comments by others

While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.

[edit] Dab

There is a lot of childish squabbling going on here. I have made Blue Panther into a {{disambig}} page with Blue panther and The Blue Panther redirecting to it.

There is a secondary question about the notabilty of Suzie Kassem.

-- RHaworth 18:40, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Interesting... in that case I will refer this case to the administrator's noticeboard and ask the administrators what should be done. Thanks for telling me. Cowman109Talk 18:43, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Special:Whatlinkshere/Blue Panther suggests that that article should be about the wrestler and Susie Kassem should be distinctly sidelined. But if a dab page stops childish edit wars, it may be useful. And here is another AfD decision: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Blupantha. -- RHaworth 18:58, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

I have referred the administrator's noticeboard to this mediation case at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Blue Panther Cowman109Talk 19:04, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
And now Suzie Kassem is up for speedy deletion. We'll see where that goes... Cowman109Talk 19:29, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Suzie Kassem has been speedily deleted and I have changed the disambiguation page to a redirect to the wrestler page. I believe this case can be considered closed as there is nothing left to be done. Is anything else needed?

[edit] Case closed

As the matter at hand appears to be resolved, I am closing this case. This page will remain on my watchlist, but if any new problems arise I would recommend filing another request for mediation. Thanks. Cowman109Talk 19:15, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
