Medrad Inc.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Medrad produces powered injectors for use in medical imaging.

Originally created by Dr. M. Stephen Heilman, M.D. in 1964 in his kitchen. He realized the potential of his device in angiography. By injecting a contrast agent into a vessel using power would improve an image's quality, making it possible to diagnose heart disease and strokes.

MEDRAD later introduced the first injector technology for computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MR).

Used in conjunction with a Digital Imaging System, or a Rapid Film Changer, a sequence of images can be captured showing the progress of the injected contrast through the area of interest.
