A medievalist is a historian or other scholar who specializes in medieval history or medieval studies. One of the most famous medievalists in the 20th century is the Italian scholar Umberto Eco.

In Isaac Asimov's classic science-fiction novel The Caves of Steel, a "medievalist" is someone, in the future society described in the novel, who is basically nostalgic for the good old days of the long-ago primitive 20th century.
