Mechanical bank
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A cast iron mechanical bank is a toy bank with mechanical parts popular in the early 20th century. The bank accepts coins, usually a penny, in a gimmicky way. For example, by cocking a mechanism of a bank shaped like an elephant, the elephant's trunk will pick up the coin and deposit it. These banks were typically made of cast iron. these banks have since become popular again with non-collectors and many catalogue firms sell reproduction versions.
