Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society

The Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) is the United Kingdom body responsible for collecting and distributing royalties to composers, songwriters and publishers for recording of copyrighted music onto many different formats. It is a not-for-profit organisation which funds its work through a commission on the licence revenue it receives. In 2004 it distributed £219m of royalties to around 18,000 members.

Established in 1924, the MCPS is 100% owned by the Music Publishers' Association since 1976. The MCPS is also a part of the MCPS-PRS Alliance in which they work alongside the Performing Right Society (PRS).
