Mecelle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mecelle is the name given to the Ottoman civil code, introduced during the late 19th century. The code was prepared by a commission headed by Ahmet Cevdet Paşa between years 1869 - 1876. It is often compared to the Roman codices Codex Theodosianus and Justinian's Corpus Iuris Civilis, also written in Constantinople, in terms of its scope and volume.
