Presently, the Minister for Communications, Noel Dempsey is one of the most high profile TDs from the constituency. A by-election took place on March 11, 2005 to fill the vacant seat.

The Meath constituency is just one of the many constituencies that will be changing at the next general election. It will be divided into the two new constituencies of Meath East and Meath West.
