Meakashi-hen (目明し編 Eye Opening Chapter?) is the title of the fifth game of the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series and additionally is the first game of the "answer" arc, spanning a total of four games. It was first released on December 30, 2004 at Comiket 67. Later, a manga was adapted from this part of the story. Finally, in the anime series, Meakashi-hen spans episodes 16-21.

Answer to Watanagashi-hen. It is practically the same as Watanagashi-hen, however this story is told from Shion Sonozaki's perspective, which allows the player to understand the mysteries of that chapter. While this story helps answer many questions posed by Watanagashi-hen, it still leaves some mysteries unsolved.

The Meakashi-hen manga illustrated by Yutori Hōjō will begin serialization in the Japanese manga magazine Monthly Gangan WING. Later, the individual chapters will be collected into two tankōbon published by Square Enix.
