"Me & My Friends" (officially renamed "Me and My Friends" in 2003 [1]) is a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers from their 1987 album, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan. It is the third song on the album and it was released as a single. The song is an ode to friends and in it Anthony sings of his friends, especially former guitarist Hillel Slovak. The band has recently begun to perform this song at concerts.
The introduction to the song is a chromatic bass fill performed by Flea which leads into a funked-up chorus section. At a performance of this song on the Californication tour, the members of The Foo Fighters tipped random items such as spaghetti, ping pong balls and streamers on the drummer Chad Smith's head, arms and drumkit from a high scaffold. Smith can be seen to leap off in pursuit the second the song is completed. This can be found on the Chili Peppers' Off The Map DVD.
This is not to be confused with another Red Hot Chili Peppers song, "My Friends" (from 1995 One Hot Minute, the only album they have recorded with the guitarist Dave Navarro).
