[edit] History

Built in 1985 by Chokchai Bulakul, the name of the mall was originally Mahboonkrong Center. It is the combined names of "Mah" and "Boonkhrong", mother and father Chokchai, respectively. Mahboonkrong ran into financial difficulty in its early years and was sold to the Dusit Thani Group. The name of the mall is now shortened to MBK Center and managed by MBK Plc. The busts of Chokchai's parents are still displayed on the ground floor of MBK Center facing the front doors.
