Mayfair Mall
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mayfair Mall is a shopping mall located on [Highway 100] between North and Center Avenues in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. It is managed by General Growth Properties.
Mayfair contains over 180 stores on two levels and is anchored by Macy's (formerly Marshall Field's) and Boston Store (formerly Gimbel's) . Mayfair also has an AMC movie theatre.
The mall has undergone several makeovers. Originally built as an open air mall, in the early 1970s the mall was enclosed and two artificial rivers divided each side of the Mall. Between the two rivers, a central multi-story "Bazar" was created and a large indoor ice rink served as a central feature. This rink was removed during the Mall's second makeover in the 1980s and replaced with additional retail space and a central food court.
The mall's central location in the greater Milwaukee metroplex allows it to serve a large and diverse customer base. Patrons come from both Milwaukee's inner city and the affluent western suburbs to shop there.
In addition to the Mall itself, the Mall property has several large multi-story office towers. The Mall itself has served as the anchor of several nearby office towers, retail stores and executive hotels becoming Milwaukee's recognized Edge City.
