Mayari

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Tagalog mythology, Mayari is the beautiful lunar deity who was the daughter of Bathala, the king of the gods, to a mortal woman. She is the sister of Tala, the goddess of stars and of Hanan , goddess of the morning.

It is also the name of a town in Cuba in the southeastern province of Holguin, close to the actual city of Holguin.

The name of the town figures in the famous song of the 1940's, "Voy para Mayari" by Compay Segundo, Cuba.
