[edit] "Mad Maya"

Very quickly it seemed there was something wrong with this character, starting off with petty theft and then kidnapping Monica, Tyrone Dobbs's pet dog. At her engagement party to Dev, Tyrone tried to ruin the event by telling everyone, but she resisted this. Dev rekindled his love for ex Sunita Parekh when he discovered she had a brain tumour. Even Maya had pity, and then decided to capitalise this by playing the caring friend and telling Sunita she might be putting pressure on Dev. However, Sunita recovered and Dev dumped Maya and started dating Sunita.

At Dev and Sunita's engagement party, Maya wrecked Sunita's dress by spilling wine on it. Then, she married several illegal immigrants with Sunita's birth certificate. When it came to Dev and Sunita's wedding, they were both arrested for illegal marriage. When Dev managed to get the police convinced that it was Maya behind these plans she was thrown in jail, but later released on bail. She spent her bail time running around Manchester and burning down Dev's shops. The corner shop on Coronation Street was Dev's last property that had not been destroyed. Maya held Dev and Sunita captive and then left them for dead by setting fire to the shop and handcuffing them inside a locked room. However, two of the residents (Ciaran McCarthy and Charlie Stubbs) came to the rescue. Dev was rescued by Ciaran just before the corner shop exploded dramatically. Sunita was saved by Charlie and appeared shortly after. Maya, who was watching from her car at the other end of the street, tried to run them down in the street in a fit of rage. She crashed into a building and tried to rev up her engine again, but a truck crashed into the back of her car. Maya survived and was sent to the same hospital as Sunita. She was sent to jail to await her trial she may return.
