May is a character from the Guilty Gear fighting game series. She is a young, cute, and spunky member of the Jellyfish Pirates, and is utterly dedicated to Johnny, the leader of the pirates and the man who raised her after she was orphaned. She entered the first tournament in order to bail Johnny out of prison, and fights in later tournaments for his benefit. She fights with a massive ship's anchor, which she is able to swing with ease. May is Japanese, but she has been kept in the dark about her heritage for her own safety.

[edit] Gameplay

May's advantages are her high damage combos, her command throw (which leads into good damage), and her ability to zone with some pokes and her dolphin hoops. Her disadvantages are her relatively slow speed, a lack of an easy high/low mixup game, difficult combos, and her need to usually get close to an opponent to deal potent damage. One specific move that's very popular is her forward+punch move, which is one of the most dizzying moves in the game.

[edit] Story

[edit] Guilty Gear: The Missing Link

After defeating Justice (this part is not official, as canonically, Sol Badguy is the one who defeated Justice), May is reunited with Johnny, who had been imprisoned, but escaped by using his "charm" on the female guard, though he does not reveal this to May, claiming instead that he fought his way out.

[edit] Guilty Gear X: By Your Side

Hearing news of a 500,000 world-dollar bounty for a new Gear, May goes to hunt down the Gear with the intention of giving Johnny a present for his birthday, fighting other cast members along the way. She has two endings: in one, she meets and fights Testament and then Dizzy, and offers to let Dizzy join the Jellyfish Pirates. This is probably not canonical, since May does not appear to know Testament in Guilty Gear XX. In the other ending, she runs into Anji Mito, who nearly reveals to May that she is Japanese before Johnny intervenes.

[edit] Guilty Gear XX: The Midnight Carnival

I-No attacks the May Ship and knocks Dizzy over the side, and May spends her story mode looking for them both. In two endings, she fights I-No and rescues Dizzy; in one, she then fights Bridget, who was unaware that the bounty on Dizzy's head had already been paid, and in the other, she is told of her heritage by Anji, brings Dizzy to the May Ship, and is attacked by Robo-Ky. She then confronts Johnny and asks him to tell her about her past, but then gets upset with herself when it seems like she is making her biological family sound like more of a real family than the Jellyfish Pirates. Johnny comforts her by offering her a dance. In the third, she mistakes Potemkin for Dizzy's attacker and fights him.
