Maxime Jacques Marcel Verhagen (Maastricht, 14 September 1956) is a Dutch politician. He has been fractievoorzitter of the CDA since 20 May 2003.

Verhagen was born in Maastricht. He studied history at Leiden University. He started working for the CDA and was elected to the council of Oegstgeest. From 1989 to 1994 het was a member of the European Parliament. On 17 May 1994 he became a member of the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament. On 11 July 2002 he became the fractievoorzitter of the CDA.

During his university education , Verhagen was an outspoken Marxist, who made a stand against Eurocentric education, as stated by Prof. Dr. P.C. Emmer. This position has radically changed over the years, seeing as Verhagen is currently a prominent politician for a conservative party. [citation needed]
