Maximiliano Gastón López (born April 3, 1984 in Buenos Aires, Argentina), better known as Maxi López, is an Argentine football player, who currently plays for RCD Mallorca of the Spanish La Liga, where he is on loan from FC Barcelona. His most usual position is Forward.
Maxi López started his career in 1997 with River Plate. At the age of 17 he made his senior debut. With River Plate he won the Torneo Clausura in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
In January 2005 FC Barcelona signed him for €6.2 million following an injury to Henrik Larsson. Although he scored on his European debut, against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League, he was not a regular in the team.
Maxi López has an Italian passport, which allows him to play in the European Union without taking a place for extra-communitarians.
