Max Disk Formatter
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Max Disk Formatter is an old program to format the floppy disks, and was often used to format the diskettes to an nonstandard (bigger) value. Disks formatted by MDF cannot be used as a system disk, even with the standard format size, because of the non-standard file system.
As floppy disks are now not widely used for anything else than a system disk, and a system disk is not possible to create with this program, this program is now obsolete. However, it has one feature that is useful for old computers: it can format diskettes which are not able to be formatted by any other program.
[edit] Notes about the program
- If BIOS has an information about 5.25 inch drive as A: and not as B: the program may attempt to use an incorrect format.
- Norton Disk Doctor and similar programs do not understand MDF's format, and will try to get the diskette back to the standard state, possibly making it stop working again.
