Max Boot

Max Boot (born Moscow, Soviet Union) is an author and military historian noted for his support of a strong U.S. leadership role in the world. He is a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, a contributing editor to The Weekly Standard, a weekly columnist for The Los Angeles Times and a regular contributor to other publications including the Financial Times and The New York Times. He is also a consultant to the U.S. military and a regular lecturer at U.S. military institutions such as the Army War College and the Command and General Staff College. He has previously worked for The Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. While at the The Wall Street Journal, Boot authored Out of Order, a critique of the American legal system, and Savage Wars of Peace, a study of small wars in American history. Max Boot has recently written War Made New, an analysis of revolutions in military technology since 1500.
He also collaborated with Steven J. Milloy on an article "Risk Rethought" which was critical of regulations to protect public health. Milloy edited a draft of the article which can be found in the Tobacco Legacy Documents.
Boot earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley in 1991, and a master's degree in diplomatic history from Yale University in 1992.
In 2004, Boot was named one of "the 500 most influential people in the United States in the field of foreign policy" by the World Affairs Councils of America.
