Maurice "Lefty" Reid
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Maurice "Lefty" Reid was a former Curator of the Hockey Hall of Fame. He spent his vacations from the Toronto Telegram, where he was Sports layout Editor, working at the Hall before he became its Curator. Reid was initially responsible for both the Hockey Hall of Fame and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame. From the time of [Bobby Hewitson]'s retirement in 1967, until his retirement in 1992, when Ian "Scotty" Morrison took over the reigns. Reid took what he described as " a basement full of sticks and pucks" and helped to create what has become the impressive presentation you can see today at the new location in downtown Toronto. Reid created a world-class library and resource centre, including a sizable photo library. In his retiremement, M.H.Reid settled in Peterborough where he was subsequently honoured with a key to the city after voluntarily helping to create a new sports hall of fame there. The sports hall also recently honoured Reid with his induction to that very hall due to his many contributions to sport, both as a historian and as an athlete in his earlier years.
