Maurice Morris (born December 1, 1979 in Chester, South Carolina) is an American football running back for the NFL's Seattle Seahawks. He was drafted in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft out of the University of Oregon. Maurice was the 54th overall pick of that draft. He is currently the backup running back to Shaun Alexander, getting playing time when Shaun is resting, 3rd and long situations, and late in blowouts.
[edit] Pro career
Morris was the Seattle Seahawks primary Kick-Off returner between 2002 and 2004. He was consistent though unspectacular and was supplanted by Josh Scobey for kick returning duties in 2005. Morris has seen limited action behind Shaun Alexander the 2005 MVP though his contributions have not gone unnoticed by teamates, as shown by the fact Shaun Alexander told the Seattle times on August 17th 2006 that Maurice Morris could start for at least ten different teams in the NFL and could produce a thousand rushing yards and eight or nine touchdowns if given the opportunity. In the 2005 playoffs against when the Seahawks played the Washington Redskins Alexander went out with a concussion and Morris filled in very admirably helping the Seahawks to victory. Morris is known for his good fundamentals (blocking and receiving and running) as well as his good attitude in spending his carreer backing up star running back Shaun Alexander.
Maurice Morris attended Chester High School in Chester, South Carolina. As a senior, he rushed for over 1,600 yards and 25 touchdowns.
