Mauerbach Priory

Mauerbach Priory (Kartause Mauerbach), in Mauerbach on the outskirts of Vienna, is a former Carthusian monastery.

The monastery was founded in 1313 by Frederick the Handsome. In 1782 it was dissolved by Emperor Joseph II and from 1786 the premises were used for the care of the old and incurably ill of the city of Vienna.

The Baroque charterhouse is one of the most important buildings of its kind in Austria. As of 2006 it is undergoing restoration by the Austrian Historical Monuments Department.
