[edit] Unreferenced
This article needs more references than just the subject's own blog. As it stands, it looks self-written. Has this individual ever been mentioned in a newspaper or magazine? Why is he considered famous enough to have his own Wikipedia article? Please review Wikipedia:Notability (people). If credible external references to establish notability cannot be located and added to this article, then the article should be nominated for deletion. --Elonka 21:22, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- As I recall, he's been writing for IGN magazine for as long as I can remember (since the late 90's). So, yes he is mentioned in magazines. I say keep him in, but only because I think he's well-known in the gaming community. (Posted 02:07, April 30, 2006 by 24.160.119.140)

- Matt is important as he appears to be something of a quasi-insider when it comes to Nintendo news, often receiving and doling out hints to future information. He is kind of a figurehead reference journalist for all things Nintendo. - Green Gecko —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.129.155.102 (talk • contribs). 19:50, May 17, 2006

- Hiya, I don't want it to seem that I'm being obsessive about this (I'm an IGDA volunteer who's trying to help improve the article), but we really need some more citations in order to keep this article from being deleted. Has his name ever appeared in an outside magazine or newspaper, or can we at least list some of his own articles? Also, when adding comments to a discussion page, please "sign" them with four tildes (~~~~). This adds your name and datestamp to each message, and makes conversations a bit easier to follow. Oh, and for more information about me, click on my name. Thanks. :) --Elonka 17:40, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

- rofl, your a volunteer of the IGDA and don't know who matt is... LOL 67.71.35.12 04:05, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- That would be correct. In fact, I have checked with several other of my associates in the game industry, and none of them have heard of him either. Though it is confirmed that Matt does some writing for IGN, it does not appear that he is at all well-known outside of that particular Nintendo circle. If anyone does know of any third-party profiles of Casamassina by mainstream press, I am interested in seeing them. I again repeat my caution that with the limited amount of information that is currently available, the claim of his "notability" is tenuous at best, and this article may well get nominated for deletion unless further proof of fame can be provided. --Elonka 08:04, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Some writing? He does almost every review, and does most of the news on regular days(not the megaton that was the 14th) rofl indeed thats sad you don't know who matt is. So have you even been to IGN wii at all? and I think that anyone with 4,161 comments to his IGN blog derserves an entry :P. And what associates in the game industry did you talk to?? He's one of the most respected game journalists. 72.72.205.110 00:22, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- If you have references confirming this, per WP:V, please feel free to add them to the article. --Elonka 00:54, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

- Elonka, I am honestly very surprised that you have never heard of Matt and that you have also been so dismissive of him. IGN is one of, if not THE single largest video game publications and Matt is one of the most prolific and widely known of it's founding members. If you're so-called associates in the game industry deal at all with Nintendo consoles, I cannot fathom how they could not know of him. If you need further justification, look no further than http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4027&Itemid=2&limit=1&limitstart=2 where next-gen.biz lists the top 50 gaming journalists. I think they do a fair job of explaining his significance. 128.239.219.107 19:03, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

- Thank you for the reference, it looks like a good one. I have added it to the page. And no, I don't know too many people who deal with Nintendo consoles. That's a "niche" in the game industry, which has a lot of niches! For example, on that list of top 50 journalists, I've definitely heard of some of them, but not all. I think it would be rare to find anyone who had themselves heard of all 50 of those names. --Elonka 21:59, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nickname meaning
What is the etymology of "Matt-a-no"? Is it a funny nickname or a reference to a videogame? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.103.154.11 (talk • contribs)., 19:09, May 1, 2006
In the CubeToons comics, it is what "Craig-A-Roo" calls Matt. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mike PhD (talk • contribs) 13:57, August 8, 2006.
[edit] Citation
I added the Wii page as the citation for the "Most Wii articles are written by him" statement. If you look at the articles on the page, you will find this statement to be factual. Theunknown42 02:20, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Go to http://wii.ign.com/email.html if you want to email IGN Wii mailbag which he does.
It would be helpful for the article if we get information to add from him. FullMetal Falcon 01:37, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed merge
I've been watching this page since I added that image of Matt(this February) and so far this article has not changed in size. In fact I believe its gotten smaller, so due to this I propose a merge with any other IGN staff page to create a list. FullMetal Falcon 01:37, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
