Matvey Blanter

Matvei Isaakovich Blanter (ru: Матвей Исаакович Блантер) (Pochep, near Bryansk, 10 February 1903 [O.S. 28 January] - Moscow 24 September 1990) was one of the most important composers of popular and film music in Russia. Born into a family of a poor Jewish artisan in Pochep, which at the time was a part of Ukraine.

Among many other songs, he wrote the immensely popular "Katyusha", and "Song about Shchors". He was active as a composer until 1975, producing more than two thousand songs.
