Matthew Robinson

Matthew Robinson (born 1944) is a British television director and producer.
Nicknamed the "Pope of Soap", Robinson was lead director of the soap opera EastEnders when it launched. He then produced and directed the teenage soap opera Byker Grove from its start in 1989, leaving to serve as EastEnders's executive producer from 1998 to 2000. Robinson's early work as a director included several episodes of Doctor Who in the early 1980s.
He served as Head of Drama for BBC Wales, and has also worked on Emmerdale, Coronation Street, and Brookside.
His brother is musician Tom Robinson.
