Matthew Andrew Petersen (born March 27, 1980 in Subiaco, Western Australia) is an Australian rugby league player for the Gold Coast Titans in the National Rugby League. After playing for the Belmont Steelers, a feeder club for the North Queensland Cowboys, Petersen was called up to the NRL in 2002. Petersen moved from the Cowboys to the Parramatta Eels midseason in 2002 and played for the Eels with some success until 2006. Midseason 2006, Eels coach Jason Taylor removed Petersen from the roster and moved him to the Premier League team, where he spent the rest of the season. He is signed with the Titans for the 2007 season, the team's first year in the league.
In 2004, Petersen played a game for the United States against Australia after qualifying for the American side under the parent rule.
