Matthew Amroliwala is a BBC newsreader who presents the news on BBC News 24 and sometimes on BBC One.

Son of an Royal Air Force officer, he was educated at The King's School, Ely and then St Chad's College, Durham University. He graduated in 1984 having read Law and Politics.

After an initial career as a chartered accountant he joined the BBC and in 1990 he became a BBC network television correspondent. In 1997 he joined BBC News 24 as a presenter of the evening programmes, and from the beginning of 2001 he has presented the late afternoon news programme. He is currently a main presenter on the weekday lunchtime slot alongside Jane Hill. He is also a regular presenter of news bulletins on BBC One during the daytime and at weekends.

He has covered many major news stories including reporting extensively from Northern Ireland. He has also reported from Bosnia on the fall of Srebrenica and travelled throughout the Balkans during that conflict.
