Mattanur (മട്ടന്നൂര്‍) is a city and a municipality in Kannur district in the Indian state of Kerala. Mattanur is around 25 km east of Kannur and Thalassery.

Mattannur connects Kannur, Thalassery and Iritty. The inter-state buses ply between Bangalore and Kannur passes through Mattanur. It is an important hub connecting Coorg and Kannur. Though small, it has many attractions. The town has developed around Mattanur Mahadeva Temple.

Pazhassi Dam is an attraction nearby. The much hyped Pazassi Irrigation Project brought in a deep canal to Mattannur. There is an tunnel that runs underground for about 2 kms from a spot near Chalayil Mahavishnu Temple. This tunnel reappears in Illam moola near Sree Dharma-saasta Temple. Another well-known temple in the viscinity is [[Pariyaram Sree Subramania Temple]. Pariyaram is another beautiful place near by. Padiyid Sree Vayanatukulavan Temple and Poonkotumkavu are attractions of Pariyaram

One of the eminent personalities from Mattanur was Shri. Pulleri-illathu Madhusoodanan Thangal from the pre-independent era. During the British rule he represented the area in Madras Legislative Council (MLC).

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Mattannur had a population of 44,317. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Mattannur has an average literacy rate of 82%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 85%, and female literacy is 79%. In Mattannur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
