Matt Treanor

Matthew Aaron Treanor (born on March 3, 1976 in Garden Grove, California) is a catcher for the Florida Marlins. Treanor made his Major League debut on June 2, 2004 against the Cincinnati Reds, going 1 for 3 with a run scored. In what was the highlight of his season, Treanor recorded his first RBI on a walkoff single against the Chicago White Sox on June 17th. In 2005, Treanor played his first full season with the Marlins, playing backup behind starting catcher Paul Lo Duca. Treanor is currently sharing the catching duties with Miguel Olivo and Josh Willingham for the 2006 campaign. He showed off his defensive prowess on April 15th against the Washington Nationals, when he threw out all three baserunners who attempted to steal. Treanor hit his first Major League homerun against Daniel Cabrera of the Baltimore Orioles on June 20th, 2006.
He previously had played with the Marlins' Triple-A affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes, being called up to the majors twice in 2004.
In November 2003, Treanor met beach volleyball star Misty May at a rehabilitation facility in California. They got engaged in March 2004 and were married in November 2004. May and teammate Kerri Walsh won the gold medal for the women's beach volleyball tournament at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

Treanor attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. As a senior, he was a second team All-America pick and was named to the All-Tournament team at Upper Deck High School Tournament.
