Matt McGinnis

Matt McGinnis was a supporting character in the Kids' WB animated series Batman Beyond, in which he is the brother of the title character, Batman (Terry McGinnis). He was voiced by actor Ryan O'Donohue.

Matt McGinnis was the son of Warren and Mary McGinnis, and prior to the first episode he lived with his mother after his parents' divorce. His older brother Terry lived with his father, and the two had a sort of sibling rivalry, with Matt often going to great lengths to annoy Terry, apparently for the fun of it. This rivalry only seemed to intensify after Warren McGinnis was murdered by his employer, Derek Powers, and hitman Mr. Fixx. Nevertheless, Terry and Matt did care for each other, as evidenced by some of the more touching moments of the series, such as when Terry comforts Matt about their father's death.

After Batman was back to the picture of Gotham, Matt became a fan and idolizes him, unknown that his brother and the hero he worships were one and the same.

The Justice League Unlimited episode Epilogue revealed that Terry was the biological son of Bruce Wayne, the original Batman. Government agent Amanda Waller, believing that the world needed a Batman, had arranged for Warren McGinnis' reproductive DNA to be overwritten by Bruce's genetic material by means of a fake flu shot. She wanted to create for Bruce an heir. Since Warren McGinnis continued to carry Bruce Wayne's genetic material after Terry's conception, Matt is also the biological child of Bruce Wayne.
