Matt Maiellaro is the co-creator and writer of the cult television animated series Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Prior to working on Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Maiellaro produced and wrote for Space Ghost: Coast to Coast since its inception in 1994. Maiellaro's writing partner and friend Dave Willis started writing for Space Ghost Coast to Coast in 1995 and have since made short independent films together (notably the live action short A Day Off, which is about a Michael Myers puppet and what he does when he takes a day off from murdering). In 2000 Maiellaro and Willis created Aqua Teen Hunger Force, which was actually an indirect spinoff from Space Ghost Coast to Coast. As of January 2006, Maiellaro and Willis are working on a full-length feature film of Aqua Teen Hunger Force which is due out Fall 2006.
Matt Maiellaro (sometimes credited as "Matthew Maiellaro") started out as a first and second assistant director on full-length feature films such as Basket Case 3: The Progeny, Ruby in Paradise, Ring of Steel, Kleptomania, Mr. McAllister's Cigarette Holder, and Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth. Maiellaro currently writes and provides voices for several Adult Swim series including Perfect Hair Forever, Squidbillies, and 12 oz. Mouse, which he created. When voice acting on ATHF, he is sometimes credited as "The Amazing Voice of Matt Maiellaro." His writing is characterized by surreal humour and at times a total disregard for traditional forms of storytelling. He also wrote the Squidbillies theme song, Warrior Man.
In his free time Maiellaro plays electric guitar and has proven to be quite proficient at the instrument. Various special features of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force DVDs show off his skill, and his guitar playing is featured in various episodes and DVD menus. The character Mouse Fitzgerald from 12 oz. Mouse can be seen playing metal guitar in several episodes, with Matt providing the actual guitar riffs. A caricature of Maiellaro (voiced by Maiellaro) was featured in the ATHF episode "Spacegate World" holding an electric guitar.
He is inspired by animator Don Hertzfeldt. He and writing/producing partner Dave Willis made a direct tribute to his inspiration on the episode "The Broodwich" by making a scene that uses the same animating techniques as Hertzfeldt does.
Matt is a native of Pensacola, Florida, and a graduate of Pensacola Catholic High School.
