[edit] Laptop Program

Matoaca's program for giving students laptops ended after the class of 2006 left the school. Students enrolled in the school during the 2006 school year were able to continue using their laptops until the end of their senior years. New arrivals to the school in future years, namely freshmen, will not be receiving laptops unless they are part of the school's specialty center program. Teachers will continue to have their own computers to enhance their teaching abilities.

The program was ended after the significant growth in the school's student population and the cost became too high. In addition, money was instead used for transportation in Chesterfield County, which was seen as a higher priority at the time of the program's termination. The school realized that laptops were not necessary in order to learn. The black Dell laptops were destroyed instead of being auctioned off to a charity or sold.
