Mathias Kagimu Kiwanuka (born March 10, 199 in Indianapolis, Indiana) is a former Boston college football player for Boston College of the Atlantic Coast Conference, and plays in the NFL for the New York Giants who selected him 32nd overall in the first round of the 2006 NFL draft following a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is expected to be the future replacement for Michael Strahan. He played his high school football at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Kiwanuka, who was widely regarded as one of the best pass rushing defensive ends in college, led the Big East Conference in sacks during the 2003 and 2004 seasons with 11.5 each season. Although he would have been a first round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, he elected to return to BC for his senior season. In 2005 he was named ACC Preseason Player of the Year and was also named to multiple preseason All-America teams.
He is the grandson of Benedicto Kiwanuka, the first Prime Minister of Uganda. Benedicto Kiwanuka was assassinated in 1971 by Idi Amin. Mathias is the youngest of Deodata and Emmanuel Kiwanuka's three children; has one brother and one sister.
