Matawari

Matawari is a dialect of Saramaccan spoken by about 2,000 people in Suriname. The sources of Saramaccan vocabulary are English, Portuguese, Dutch, and Sub-Saharan African languages, especially Kongo and Gbe. Matawari is spoken by descendants of African slaves in the interior of Suriname, which is covered by woods.
