The Mata Amritanandamayi Math is a public charitable trust headquartered at Amritapuri, Kollam, Kerala that was founded to promote the message of 'Amritanandamayi'. The Mata Amritanandamayi Mission Trust is the parent organization for numerous spiritual, educational, social and cultural activities.

The trust runs many charitable institutions under the guidance of 'Amritanandamayi'. These humanitarian activities serve the most disadvantaged sections of society by providing development assistance, economic aid, medical aid, and educational facilities. Amritanandamayi's generous spirit of service is the inspiration for these activities which reach the poor of India.
Teaching by the example of her own life, 'Amma' blends spiritual awareness with practical social service.
- "I desire peace for the people; this is what makes me happy. In this world where so many people live in luxury and comfort, there are many who are suffering poverty and even starvation. With cooperation and love, we must selflessly serve the whole world without expecting anything in return."

Home Ministry records of the Government of India show that the Mata Amritanadamayi Mission is the second largest recipient in India of foreign funds – in 1998-1999 alone INR 51.55 crores were received (about USD 11.5 million)[1].
Answering a question about allegations that her relatives were rich (in the interview given to The Week), the Mata mentions that her father had 'about 20 boats' some of which he sold to set up a business for another brother. One brother is 'into building contracts' and also has 'some chocolate agency'. Another of her brothers has a 'money-lending business'. She said that they have been helped by her devotees but her father still earns his bread through hard work and does not take anything from the ashram.
