Mat District

The District of Mat (Albanian: Rrethi i Matit) is one of the thirty-six districts of Albania. It is named after the Mat River, that flows through the district. It has a population of 62,000 (2004 estimate), and an area of 1,028 km². It is in the centre of the country, and its capital is Burrel. Other places in this district include Klos, Krastë, and Ulzë.

The ruling family of this region was the Zogu dynasty, the most renowned member of which is King Zog I of the Albanians.
