MAT (Македонски Авио Транспорт)-Macedonian Airlines is the national flag carrier of Republic of Macedonia operating from Skopje and Ohrid Airports.

The airline was established on 16 January 1994 and started operations on 23 June 1994 flying from Skopje to Zürich using a Boeing 737-200. It is owned by Zivko Gruevski (48.43%) and Zlatko Petrovski (48.43%) (at January 2005). The Government of Republic of Macedonia in the year of 2000 signed an agreement with MAT that gave MAT the status of National flag carrier of Republic of Macedonia in the following 10 years. The management team from MAT has brought in experts from Slovenia to help the airline with new aircraft orders and airline restructuring.

Plans to open flights from Ohrid to Paris from May 1, 2007, futhermore has priorites to open flights to Copenhagen and Istanbul with the arrival of the second Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft. Also plans to open flights to Brussels before the end of 2006.

- 2 Bombardier CRJ-900 (one arriving in April 2007 and another in April 2008). Macedonian Airlines (MAT) took delivery of a Bombardier CRJ900 regional jet on April 13, 2006. In addition to this firm-ordered aircraft, the contract with MAT also includes conditional orders for two additional CRJ900 airliners. The list price value for the delivered aircraft is approximately $28 million US.

[edit] Embraer and MAT dispute
For a very short time, MAT owned an Embraer jet. It operated in full Macedonian Airline colours. However, Embraer took the aircraft back a few months later for reasons that are not known to the public. MAT had another Embraer on order however it never arrived.
